Watashi Wa Iru

Art that evokes the "I am here" moment

The best and worst piece you ever made in sl

I think the name of this forum is self-explanatory. Let's hear all about it guys. THE best and THE worst pieces you ever made in sl. If you are not a creator but a curator type feel free to praise or rant about artwork you've been involved in. And don't forget to say why they were so fabulous or why they sucked so bad!

Watashi Wa Iru!

Hmm well, I made some god awful crap in the first few months, in my defence that was mainly because I was learning the tools and slowly realising much more was possible than just uploading my RL art and slapping it on a prim. So, my worst, I guess was all that "flat", uninspiring stuff.

Difficult for me to say what my best work was, the most popular was definitely Sick Cat. But, I suppose I'm always most enthusiastic about my latest project, I get bored very quickly of most SL art, especially my own, so once it has been shown I just want it to go away.

I really enjoyed working on my installation 'The love that dare not speak its name' for PLANETART / Kunstvlaai last week, particularly because it was seen by many people at the real Amsterdam festival. It was satisfying in different ways, I was happy with how the actual build came together in the end but also that the very personal and political message reached a wider audience.

Here's a a photo of the audience in real Amsterdam watching my performance in virtual Amsterdam -

I think the best piece I've ever made in sl is the Self-Disorganizing Fence I'm working on at this moment via Andres Watanabe (my other me) at Brooklyn is Watching. I also think this piece could be worst I've made. Actually I can't make my mind up whether it's the best or the worst. What standards can I use to judge? In all honesty I sorta like it but I can't really say why. I guess I'm celebrating disorganization, shanty, shipwreck, zen stick things. And the balls are just pitiful...
Love,

I will go look later and then let you know whether or not you have pitiful balls!

I tell you it took time. Initially I found it difficult to get past the ugly default wood texture, there is something about it that bothers me. I suppose it's because that texture is almost always customised, so when I see it it suggests something unfinished. But then I just watched the movement of the beams inter crossing with each other and I became much more interested. The way it moves is very fluid and reminiscent of machinery and industry, which was strange and at odds with the wooden texture.

So, I liked it. I appreciated the scale, and that it is very different to what we're used to seeing from you. I'm still not sure about that texture but that could be the very reason why I found it so alluring!

I rather fancy the careless non-texture, like Twombley and his canvases... or something like that. I think it is not only different from what we're used to seeing from Juria, but from what we're used to seeing in general. Go Juria, go. Sélavy's cubes there are spectacular as well.
